<lj:music>B'z - Samayoeru Aoi Dangan</lj:music>

Dear Mr. Obama,

My name is Melanie. I'm a student at NYU with an unusual request. My friend and fellow student Erik is strongly considering transferring schools and moving back to California from NYC. He barely gave it a chance--just one semester and he's calling it quits already. He can't afford it, he insists he hates the city even though I know if he actually gave it a chance, he definitely wouldn't. Only one thing can convince him to give New York City another chance, and that is hearing it from the man himself. Erik told me that he would stay only if I got Barack Obama, his idol, to personally tell him to stay. Mr. Obama, I've tried everything else in my power to keep him here. If I'd given up after MY freshman year, I wouldn't have experienced a wealth of things that have made my life a thousand times better. The power is in YOUR hands now, Mr. Obama. I know you probably get a lot of emails, and plenty of requests for who knows what, I'm sure. But if you were to take just a few minutes--I know you're busy, you know, running for President and all, but I can ask, you know?--to tell this boy to stay in New York City, you would change the course of a number of lives now for the better, and who knows how many down the road as an indirect result.

I can't convey how much this has to happen in an email. I also can't offer you a whole lot of incentive; however, if you were to do this, I could offer my services, which are any of the following:
-I will arrange and perform a piece to be performed by a kazoo quartet just for you.
-I will compose and/or sing a piece just for you. Your choice of song, style, etc.
-I will make it my personal mission to convince 1,000 people to vote for you, and to get each of those people to get ten people to vote for you, and so on. I could do the first part with ease. The second part, well, people will do what they will, you know?
-Face painting! I can paint faces at your daughters' next birthday parties.
-??? Think of something! I'm open to suggestions.

Please email me back if you'd like more information on how, by helping out a few college students, you can make the world a better place.

I thank you sincerely for your time.

~~Melanie Ehrlich

Hey here's a funny joke!

Q: What does Melanie give to a boy she likes?
A: Mono!

I'm kinda angry at God right now. He knows exactly what he's doing! I bet he's sitting up there all like, "Hey, you know what would be fun? I'm gonna have Melanie finally meet someone she likes and who likes her, I'll have 'em lock lips, and THEN I'm gonna make her blood test come back POSITIVE for mono! Hooooo-ah! How funny would that be? Oh man, I crack myself up." Thanks, big guy. That really wasn't cool. >:O

Melanie hasn't updated in a while. Melanie talks in the third person!

So, what's happened in my life since last time? Well...

-Build-A-Bear? I got a job at Build-A-Bear...it's a very Melanie job. Visit me sometime and I rove you rong time.

-School? I start "summer" classes May 15th and they June 26th. Right before the summer begins, it seems. I'll be taking Intensive German--two semesters' worth of German squeezed into six weeks! Oh dear.

-Acting? Yeah, I think I'll do that. Started taking voice acting classes out in Merrick, where I've learned plenty of valuable things and met some...interesting people.

-Mono? Even though my doctor said I was clear and could kiss people and play contact sports (because we all know how much I enjoy contact sports), this apparently means "don't do any of these things" in doctor speak because not only do I still have mono, but it apparently is highly contagious. Thanks for that one, doc! Next time, can you tell me before I infect someone else, maybe? If it's not too much trouble? Thanks.

So yeah, aside from stupid mono possibly ruining what could have been a very nice thing, life's okay. I love my job...I dunno. Something's still missing. I think I need to go back to school. Actually, I think I need to go back to Israel, but I'll try not to think about that so as to not depress myself. I should probably go to sleep.

I've recently come to the conclusion that I will not be satisfied with my life unless I change the world. Like the whole thing. Somehow. Plan being drafted now.

Oh, and that last entry? It's not that hard! I didn't even hide it that well! If you're really curious I'll tell you eventually, but come on, it's not a poem. Even I could do better than that.

Uggh, give me something to doooooooooooooooooo

Okay, here's a question. What's the most influence a single person with no "contacts" could have on their local government? Writing letters and such don't do much, so what's the most someone can do to be "heard" and have their ideas considered and stuff? I wish I knew more about this kinda stuff.

I feel very whiny and stuff lately, and I don't like it. Ick

    <lj:music>Nothing. There's a first.</lj:music>

I was thinking today.

Do you suppose people are conscious...
Of the things they do everyday?
Now, I found myself staring
'tween the eyes of the increasingly stupid people
That roam the streets...

Why do I bother when
Another passion calls?
Never would I have thought
That I didn't have the balls

The balls for what, Melanie?
Oh, you may ask, but I'll tell you, see...

During my eventful high school years
Everything (overall) was pretty fine
Any doubts that came into my head would
Leave before they messed with my mind

Why, I was pretty optimistic
I wasn't negative any longer
The gifts of intelligence and passion were mine,
Hope merely made them stronger

To act, teach or sing? was the thing--oh,
How to pick which I wanted to do? In fact(ical),
I wanted to do it all, but
Soon I'd realise that this thinking was impractical

Considering the time required by those things
Really doing more than one wouldn't work
And in the end, I chose the best one for me
Plus...it wouldn't leave me feeling like a jerk.

And now, years have passes
No one's getting younger
Yet I feel like something's being lost...
Maybe it's just that
Originality's gone the way of the caribou. Or that
Reality is just stupid!
Everyone is!

Onerous...
Understandable...
Retched.

What are these?
Oh, just...adjectives.
Really!
Look at them. Do you see anything else?
Duh, of course not. Told you.

I may be lying. Haha.
Suckaaaaaaaaaaaaaas

Definitely sucks.
Everyone seems kinda lifeless lately.
People don't have the same...the same...
Routines? No...
Energy? Nah, not that either...
Simplicity? Maybe.
Simplicity...yeah. That might be it.
In fact, I think it is. Well great.
Now I've pinpointed why people are stupid.
Great.

I...oh, never mind. Ignore all that. Really.

To everyone who just read that,
Oops!
That was obviously not...what I'd meant to say.
Actually...maybe it was.
Let's think about that.
Lovely little piece, wasn't it?
Yeah, I don't think so either.

No one reading this should be able to say that they've never
Ever read The Giver.
Every single person should read this book.
Damn it, they should own a copy!

Alright. Time for bed.
Nah, who am I kidding? The night is young!

Eventually, I'm going to have to adapt to a regular sleep schedule again.
And what a FUN time that will be!
Really, I can't wait.

A few minutes ago, I was wide awake.
Now I'm really, really tired.
Definitely a sign. I should retire for the evening.

Another time! The party's just beginning now!

Hoo boy, 3AM. What am I doing awake?
Uggh, it's one of those nights, isn't it?
Good night!

: YES THIS IS STILL PART OF MY POST. And so is this:
(For those not too stupid to 1) realize immediately that this is something that would belong on my "Stupid Poetry" site, and 2) see the actual point/message, call. Text.
(3/4/06: I like how it took me nearly a week to finish this. Oh, Jen <3)

Oh, so many good things have been happening lately. Where do I begin? Okay, I'll write about stuff as I remember it. All of my mini-stories are going to have titles consisting of song titles that accurately reflect the story! I'm such a loser. Title (Artist)

The Marvelous Toy (Peter, Paul and Mary)

My mother and brother went to Florida without me to visit my paternal grandparents. This is the first time that my mother and brother have gone to Florida to visit them without me since my grandparents moved there, when I was in fifth grade. I was really bummed, but I couldn't do much about it. I'm probably gonna go down there myself in May...that should be interesting. Anyway, my grandmother had mentioned that she'd bought me something I could use with my iPod, which I thought was very nice, if not a little strange--after all, my grandparents aren't the most technologically advanced people in the world. I was even more confused when my grandmother added that she'd bought herself one too, as she does not own an iPod and I'm pretty sure she has no intention of buying one anytime soon. However, everything made sense when my mother and brother came home and I saw just what it was that she'd gotten me--an i-Dog.

My grandmother bought me an i-Dog.

It's stupid. It's frivolous. I absolutely love it.

The i-Dog, for those not in the know, can pretty accurately be described as a cross between a speaker and a Tamagotchi. It's a little white dog that has a speaker in its back, and if you plug it in to your iPod or any music-playing device, it flashes lights and bobs its head along to the music. It also gets "upset" if you don't "feed" it enough music, or "pet" it enough. It's so hilariously stupid, yet I find myself intrigued and sometimes captivated by it. I must say, my grandmother really does know me quite well.

Satisfaction (The Rolling Stones)

I've learned my lesson about going into too much detail on an online journal--several times, in fact, with my last one [Ah, Xanga--memories live forever]--so I'm going to purposely keep this very vague, but because of the impact this had on me, it's at least worth mentioning here.

A few months ago, something occurred between another person and myself that was, in reality, just a really, really, really dumb misunderstanding. Unfortunately, it happened right before I left for school, so I couldn't clear things up. The whole thing was frustrating because 1) there was such a simple explanation for what had happened that, had I had the chance, I could have cleared this up in a minute flat; 2) I didn't have a suitable way to get in touch with this person to do the explaining anyway; and 3) because it was just such awkward timing for a misunderstanding like this to occur. I mean, I finally just told myself that these things happen, and I just had to, unfortunately, forget about it and move on...but for the past few months, every so often this incident would creep into my mind and I'd kick myself and/or wish things hadn't transpired like they did. However...

A few days ago, I happened to see this person for (as far as I can recall) the first time since that all happened. We said a polite hello and went back to our own business..but I knew if I didn't say something at that point, I probably never would. I get this person's attention again and, in no more than a minute, I apologized and explained what had really happened that day. And just like that, the whole thing was resolved.

I know it doesn't seem like a big deal to anyone reading this--after all, because I was so vague, it could be any story about two friends getting into a fight and the resolving it months later. I assure you, however, that this situation was quite different from that in many ways. There have been at least two times in the not-so-distant past where I can recall certain misunderstandings leading to things being ruined that had the potential to be awesome, and I still feel a little bad about both (although I'm pretty sure I've gotten completely over them), and I reeeeeeeeeeeeeally didn't want this to turn into number three. So when this whole thing was rectified, I was overwhelmingly relieved. Regardless of whether or not what I'd initially wanted still comes to fruition, I am still completely satisfied with the way this turned out. Picture someone having just painted a really, really huge mural, and they're standing in front of it with their hands on their hips, surveying the newly completed piece of art, when they get a big grin on their face and nod with satisfaction. That's exactly how it felt!

Happy Together (The Turtles)

Warning: the following will not be funny unless you are me or Jen.

I can't recall the last time I spent a day with someone that was purely enjoyable. That isn't to say that I don't enjoy the company of my friends--of course I do. But usually there'll be something else on my mind, a paper to write, something I have to do when I get home, problems a friend may be having, anything, really. However, I can definitely say that Friday was the most enjoyable day I've had in a long time.

Before I continue, I'd like to acknowledge how happy it makes me that, in the Turtles' "Happy Together", the verses are in F# minor and the choruses are in F# major. There seriously aren't enough songs that use parallel majors/minors, and it made me so happy just now to realize that that's what this song does. I need to talk to somebody who appreciates parallel majors.minors as much as I do. That and Picardy thirds. (OHHHHHH!!!!!! "Happy Together" has one of those too, doesn't it? Yes!!!!!!!! I think this may be the perfect song.) If you appreciate parallel majors/minors and/or Picardy thirds, please contact me so we can have lengthy conversations discussing them. Anyway, on to my fun-filled day with Jen Germanoooooooooo.

The day begins with me picking up Jen at her house at around 3:45 post meridian. When's the last time anyone typed that out? Why would anyone type that out? Now that we've established that I'm a loser, let's move on. I pick up Jen and we're off to our first destination--Best Buy. Here, Jen picks up her paycheck, and I pick out a brand spankin' new CD deck for my car. Yes, Tabby's getting pimped out! (J: Out Tabby's getting pimped!) After making our purchases, Jen and I are off to Commerce Bank where she can open a checking account, I can FINALLY beat Solitaire on my iPod, and we can both hear all about how the husband of the woman helping Jen spent $100 on DVDs and such that day. I never new opening checking accounts could be so much fun! We then drop by my house briefly so I can get my watch and my ring--it's gotten to the point where if I'm out and I'm not wearing my Circle of Fifths watch and my treble clef ring, I feel incomplete. It's alright, you can roll your eyes, I roll mine at myself, too.

After that, we return to Best Buy where I drop off my car for BUCKO (capitalized so Jen can easily find the Bucko mention in this entry) to install Tabby's brand spankin' new CD deck. Transportationless, we see no other option but to walk to Quizno's for dinner in the freezing-holy-crap-it's cold, cutting through the Sears Mall for a bit of extra warmth and to try on a rockin vest fit for a farmer or cowboy or something. After rocking out to Three Dog Night (courtesy of our friend, i-Dog) in Quizno's, we return to Best Buy to retrieve Tabitha, and boy does she look (sound?) good! I tested out the brand spankin' new CD deck with the first disc in the mediocre three-disc "100 Greatest Classical Pieces" CD set I bought impulsively at Best Buy (impulse buys? Melanie's back!), tried unsuccessfully to figure out how to set the clock on it, and then we were off to Huntington! Well, by way of the Elwood movie theatre--we stopped to look at movie times, but then we were off to Huntington! Our first stop was Coldstone. Jen loved it, but I only liked it. (ba-dum PSSSH--get it? Coldstone? The sizes...they're...they...okay.) Our next stop was Starbucks, where Jen satiated her Starbucks craving and I bought and promptly returned a $2 bottle of water after remembering that I keep a case of cock water in the trunk all the time. Our last stop was Waldbaum's, and this is where the real fun begins.

We first go to get hair dye because Jen wants to dye her hair again ("For the last time! Really!"). While Jen is looking at different shades and I'm staring off into space or whatever a clomping sound catches my ear--when I turn around, I see a man pushing a shopping cart, whose shoes for some reason seem to be making a clomping sound. It is when I look down at his feet that I see it--this man is wearing bright yellow wooden shoes.

I turn around and say something to quickly get Jen to come with me, and I head in the direction in which I thought I saw the man heading. Sure enough, as soon as we get into produce, I see the man again. He clomps every time he takes a step, causing us to break into hysterics every time this poor guy moves. We later realize that he may be homeless, and then I feel bad for laughing, but still--wooden shoes?? I could picture maybe a Dutch homeless guy wearing wooden shoes, but...why was this guy wearing them? Either way, it was entertaining and made me giggle a bit. After Jen had some fun with the self-checkout register, I bought two lottery tickets with my two remaining singles. One ticket was a losing ticket; however, on the second ticket, I won something from all three chances on the ticket! I won four whole dollars! <3 gambling <3

And then we go back to my car. And that's when it happens.

When Jen and I get into my car, I reach for my bag, which is by her leg, and as I pick it up I jostle her arm, causing coffee to spill a bit on Jen's leg, and alllllllllll over Tabby's seat. If I were smart, I'd keep napkins or tissues in my glove compartment for incidents such as this. Unfortunately for us, though, I apparently am not smart, as I do not keep these things in my glove compartment. The only thing in my glove compartment that served a, uh, similar purpose was the sanitary napkin I'd stashed away in there. So I did what anyone would have done--I soaked up the coffee with the maxi-pad, thus leading Jen to christen the incident as "Tabitha's first period".

After cleaning up Tabitha's period, we end up at the Elwood Quad, where we see Date Movie, which would not have been funny with anyone but Jen. After that abomination of 80 minutes we drive to Port Jefferson? where we essentially do nothing but drive around, scour a hospital employee parking lot for Jen's father's car, and I have trouble backing out of a spot. Oh, and we get our groove on to truly horrible music on my iPod. Love live the 90s! After our adventure in Port Jefferson where we end up at the only place still open at midnight--the diner. Now, I hadn't seen Tabitha's pad in a while, but I didn't think much of it...until the man who seated us in the diner stopped as we sat down and said "What is this?"...and picks up the pad. I was so embarrassed that I didn't say anything--and if you're reading this, it's likely you know that it's not easy to render me speechless. To us, though (to me once I got over my embarrassment, anyway) it was the funniest thing in the world, and the perfect end to our night. <3

It's that time again! I knew starting a new journal wouldn't change this...it's yet another time when I'm awake and want to update, but can't think of what I want to write. So instead, naturally, I want to do...a survey! That's right, because I didn't do enough in my last journal! Oh, whatever, they're fun. Maybe once I do one, I can go to sleep, because I'd really like to go to sleep so I can wake up tomorrow. Alright, here it is--not just my first survey in my LJ, but my first LJ cut, too! How exciting!

A - Available? What? Uggh, I hate questions like these, that are one word. Available, like dating available? Why can't they think of another "A" and just ask later, for "S", if the person taking the survey is single? Jeez. Yes, I'm "available".
A - Age?: 18, 19 in May (I don't want it to come! I like being 18 :( )
A - Annoyance: I wasn't really annoyed at anything, but this survey got off to a bad start. "Available" Stop!

B - Best Friends?: I love all of my friends! I think my best friends know who they are.
B - Bar?: A man walks into a bar--ouch! (For Feldman <3)
B - Birthday?: May 21st, 1987

C - Crush: *blush* and such
C - Car: Tabitha!!! <3 <3 <3 Oh, my precious Tabby! She's a green 1995 Toyota Camry and I love her soooooooo much!
C - Cat: Don't have one. I'm allergic to some cats, actually. But not badly. I've only had reactions to like too cats, actually.

D - Dead Pets: Uhh...lots of fish. And my anoles. R.I.P. Max and Felicia :(
D - Dad's Name: Greg
D - Dog: Don't have one

E - Easiest person to talk to: Different friends about different things, I guess.
E - Eggs: What about them??? This survey annoys me. I like hardboiled eggs a lot. And egg salad <3
E - Email: What? What is this question asking??!

F - Favorite color?: Blue
F - Food: Macaroni and cheese!
F - Foreign Slang: Haha, oh look at that! I didn't intend to make the first word an example, but look what happened! Let's see...okay, let's go by language. In German, I suppose there'd be every E Nomine song title, as well as "Ich bin ein groß Ventilator!" In Japanese, there's "haha" and I don't know Japanese. I can't think of any more of the top of my head, but considering Justin and I use every language but English sometimes, I'm sure there's plenty more.

G - Gummy Bears or Worms: I don't know. Gummy worms? I don't know!
G - God: said let there be and there was God said let there beatam mariam semper virginem... (bonus points to anyone who gets that ^^)
G - Good Time: The last one? One random one? Last one I'd say was the night before I came home all mono-ified, when I saw Thomas Hampson at Carnegie Hall with Aunt Rae. And especially seeing the actual original first page from THE Agnus Dei from THE Mass...I wanna go look at it again! It was a really enjoyable night.

H - Hair Color: Brown
H - Height: 5'4"ish
H - Happy: Sure

I - Ice Cream: I had raspberry sherbet a little while ago <3
I - Instrument: Voice. And very, very little piano. And the harmonica, but...well, you probably know about me and the harmonica :P I'd like to learn at least a little bit of the accordian, the violin, the saxophone, bagpipes? drums, and much more piano.
I - Idol: You know, I never used to have one, but I'm going to have to answer Leonard Bernstein. The more I find out about him, the more I learn about him, the more I like him. He truly, honestly inspires me.

J - Jewelry: Most definitely my Circle of Fifths watch and my treble clef ring <3
J - Job: Well it WAS babysitting an adorable little girl for an amazingly large amount of money. Now, it's just babysitting. I love all the kids I babysit regardless of pay of course, but I have to admit, had it reeeeeeeally good in the city. :P
J - Joke: Currently, it's this one (forgive me, many of you have seen this): Why did Mozart kill all of his chickens? Because they all ran around going "Bach! Bach! Bach!"

K - Kids: I love kids! Usually. I'm very lucky and have an adorable (usually) brother and babysit for (usually) adorable kids, but I don't like obnoxious kids. I guess I'll have to get used to them, but whatever.
K - Karate: I took Tae Kwon Do for a month last summer?
K - Kite: is a word

L - Longest Car Ride: Eh...five hours up to Lake George with the family, or something. I didn't count the trip to All-State because that was technically a BUS ride, not a CAR ride, but the trips there and back were both 8-9 hours each.
L - Longest Relationship: 4 1/2 months in middle school :-/
L - Last Person you spoke to on the Phone: Mike

M - Milk Flavor: Skim?
M- Mom's Name: Mindy
M - Movie Last Watched: Hmm, I don't know, I haven't watched a movie in a while, I don't think...I guess it's The Red Violin.

N - Number of Siblings: Just my annoying little brother, David <3
N - Northern or Southern: Northern or Southern what?!?!?! From now on, if I think a question is really stupid, I'm going to replace it with a random fact or something about myself that that letter reminds me of. Okay? Good.
N - Name: FACT: OMG I have to go out and buy another The Book tomorrow! I wanna start keeping a The Book again :-/

O - One wish: Infinite wishes :P
O - One Phobia: I don't really have phobias. I have fear, but not really phobias, I guess.
O - One goal: To be happy in life. I know that sounds like a cop-out or clichéd but it's true

P - Parents, are they married or divorced: Married. Hey, this one's more than one word, why can't the other ones follow suit????
P - Part of your appearance that you like best: I'm quite satisfied with the fact that my hair is naturally straight, and that it dries that way. I'm not a huge fan of curly hair, and I don't like putting a heck of a lot of effort into my hair, so yeah, I suppose I like that best?
P - Part of your Personality you like best: My ability to love and care and such

Q - Quote: I was gonna go grab The Joy Of Music, but oh, anything Bernstein's ever said. Seriously. That man...oh, L.B. <3
Q - Question for the next person: FACT: Melanie once typed out the script to The Nightmare Before Christmas from memory. It took one week and is very eerily accurate. To view it, go here: http://www.xanga.com/The_NB4C_script
Q - Quick or Slow? FACT: Melanie has had the Indiana Jones DVD box set for over a month now. It has been on her birthday and Hanukkah lists since it came out. No really, for like years. For whatever reason, she still has not opened it.

R - Reason to smile: New friends and good times. :)
R - Reality TV Show: FACT: Melanie spend more than $30 on things at Borders that she, upon entering the store, had absolutely no intention of buying. She is, however, satisfied with most of these purchases.
R - Right or Left: FACT: Melanie is a righty, which is probably the only way she differs from Justin, aside from the penis and being Jesus and all.

S - Song Last Heard: Superfantastic by Mr. Big. STILL. Oh, yeah, of course--I think to myself that I should listen to a different song, so what do I play? Syunikiss! The other song I've been listening to nonstop the past few days! I'm going to put on another song that WON'T be those two, Gardenia, Mugen, Hitori no Yoru, Ageha Chou, Driver's High, or Ameno. And it is...ohhhhhhh, Juanes! La Camisa Negra! ¡Ay caramba!
S - Season: Spring! I will never, ever again say the name of my favorite season without simultaneously thinking Vivaldi, Primavera, E Major or The Four Seasons.
S - Sex: FACT: One of Melanie's most treasured memories, in terms of sentimental value, is "three for the balls!"

T - Time you woke up: 3PM, even though I went to sleep at 8PM the previous night (?!)
T - Time Now: 5:19AM (Why?!?!)
T - Time for bed: Probably 5:45 or 6. I'll take a nap tomorrow afternoon if I must.

U - Unknown Facts about me: If I posted them they wouldn't be unknown, now, would they? OHHHH SNAP
U - Unicorns?: FACT: Melanie likes White Castle more than she likes most fast food. I know it's gross! You don't have to tell me! I like it anyway! She would like to meet another NYU student who likes any five of the following bands, composers and/or musicians: E Nomine, Porno Graffiti, Leonard Bernstein, Mark Bacino, Era, Juanes, Yoko Kanno, Eric Whitacre, Butch Walker, Mr. Big, Ultimate Fakebook. All of these are favorites of mine, and none of them are local artists, or else John-Flor and Spider Nick would be on there. First person who fits the above criteria gets a cookie. However, I wanted to be so accurate and detailed that I ended up making it way too much so for a reply, but I didn't wanna just delete it because I took so long to type it all out, so here for your enjoyment is...a list of my tastes in music from middle school to the present. Enjoy?

My taste in music has always been weird, but then again, so have I.

In middle school...actually, I can probably do this by year. I'm just gonna name the bands I got into each year, as I still like most, if not all, of the music I've discovered and liked over the years:

6th grade: I was obsessed with Orgy, and also really liked Limp Bizkit, Korn, Orgy, Metallica, Stroke 9, The Offspring, Green Day, Lit, Savage Garden (one of these things is not like the other...), Blackbox (horrible, terrible, wonderful 90's dance music). I got out the journal I kept in 6th grade to help me with this and I shuddered reading some of the things 6th-grade-Melanie wrote. I hate kids.

7th grade: I was obsessed with Blink 182, and also liked Foo Fighters, random bands/songs from the Punk-O-Rama comps, Rimsky-Korsakov??? (Reading straight from 7th-grade-Melanie's journal, but I don't remember this at ALL), Billy Joel, Godsmack, Rancid, Queen, Incubus, New Found Glory, Jimmie's Chicken Shack

8th grade: Marvelous 3 was my favorite band (they broke up and the former frontman, Butch Walker, is now my favorite rawk musician EVAR  ), and there was also Blink 182, Eve 6, SR-71, Ultimate Fakebook, Spin Doctors, Sublime, MxPx, Stone Temple Pilots, Beastie Boys, Spider Nick and the Maddogs (local ska band), Buck-O-Nine, Good Charlotte

9th grade: A lot of the stuff from the previous years, Stone Temples Pilots, Forced Laughter (local ska band), Leonard Bernstein (just a phase during which I reeeeeally liked West Side Story), Jimmy Eat World, Prozzäk, Sugarcult, Hoobastank, Pete Yorn, The Reunion Show, Mark Bacino (my guilty little pop pleasure), The Ramones, and this was my "LOCAL SHOWS LOL!" phase, so lots of random local punk and ska bands

10th grade: Bowling For Soup, Better Than Ezra, Nerf Herder, Maroon 5, Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Yoko Kanno, John-Flor Sisante (local artist), Aqua, Lifehouse, Michael Bublé, "classical music" (didn't know enough about it at this point to have favorite composers and such

11th grade: Music from Once On This Island, Eric Whitacre, Handel, Mussorgsky, Ravel, Mozart, John Rutter, Fauré, music from DDR, 80s bubble-gum pop, oldies, Kabalevsky, L'arc~en~Ciel, Leonard Bernstein (more than just a phase this time), Beethoven

12th grade: Juanes, Maná, Chayanne, Tchaikovsky, Porno Graffitti, E Nomine

And now, my tastes include all of the above, plus Malice Mizer, Bach, (this is where the post ends and I'm too lazy to finish it.)

Alright, last one, and I'm too lazy to make a cut so here it is:
(Bold what you have/are/do, don't bold what you don't have/aren't/don't do)

01. I have a cell phone.
02.
Superfantastic, everything is beautiful...

<lj:music>Mr. Big - Superfantastic (on repeat for nearly an hour now)</lj:music>

So I was listening to one of my favorite Mr. Big songs ("Superfantastic") and I hear the line "like an all-day sucker" and instantly I think of another song in which those words appear. The problem is, I can't figure out what song it is; I can't hear any other part of the song in my head, I don't know what comes before or after it, and I can't even recall how that line is sung. The only thing I have to go on is my feeling that Butch Walker sang it. Well, I do what I what do if I was searching for anything--I go to Google and type in a few key search words. However, searching for "like an all-day sucker" brings back more porn-related results than I care to sift through, so I add "Butch Walker" to that and come up with...absolutely nothing that's relevant! I try EVERYTHING--different permutations of the words, words that I thought may or may not have come before or after that line...nothing. After a good ten minutes of failure, I decide I should start searching with "The Floyds" or "Marvelous 3" instead of "Butch Walker" because, as essential as he was to the groups and as much as I tend to forget it, he was not the only member of them. I decide to go in backwards chronological order and, sure enough, I type in "all-day sucker" and "Marvelous 3" and within seconds "Bottle Rockets" is laughing at me from several places on the results page. Duhhhh. Of course it would be one of my favorite M3 songs. Well, at least it's not bothering me anymore, but you better believe that I dropped everything I was doing (which wasn't much, actually) to search far and wide for a song that contained those four words. I originally typed "searched long and hard" there but I'm too immature so I changed it. Just thought you'd like to know.

I've missed having an online journal! It's good to be back. I finally outgrew Xanga--as much fun as those days were, I associate Xanga with high school and even aside from that it's just not me anymore. I didn't like the direction in which it was heading--I was getting really boring. Getting a fresh start with a new journal seems very appealing, so here it is. And with a nice new username that doesn't date back to middle school! I don't know if/when I'll ever change my AIM screen name, despite its origin being my favorite bands when I created it in eighth grade (!!!). But this is a nice, fresh start that reflects who I am now pretty well in several ways, actually. Those who know me YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just found my favorite ever version of Handel's Arrival Of The Queen Of Sheba. Oh, boy...between this, my mother buying grape juice and raspberry sherbet, and other pleasant things that have happened since I woke up at 6PM, this has turned out to be a pretty good day. (Night? Morning? Is it even worth going to sleep at this point?) As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted by myself, those who know me at all will understand that it reflects my love for music--a pretty basic thing about me that most people know. And those who know me the very best will understand what it is, where it's from, what significance the line has to me, what significance the piece it's from has to me, what significance the larger work has to me, what significance the composer has to me, what, subsequently, the ideal conductor for the work has to me, who that conductor is, whether or not I've visited that person's grave...alright, now I'm clearly talking about Justin, but my point is, "Mi with sol" is more to me than just two solfege syllables. If you think about it too much, like me, it starts meaning things that have to do with every aspect of my life. It says something about my personality, my future career, the music I like, how I feel about religion, and really how I feel about anything I do. If that sounds very ambiguous and makes little sense to you...well, good, it should. I doubt anyone could accurately explain what I meant by more than half of the things in that last sentence. Then again, I don't think anyone could accurately explain what I mean by more than half the things I say, but that's besides the point. If you'd like to know, however, you're more than welcome to ask me, no matter who "you" are. This works out especially well because I have a sudden desire to explain it to someone. Oh, and bonus points to anyone who can answer more than five of the things I said that "those who know me the very best" will understand, besides Justin. Oh, fine, bonus points for Justin, too. ^_^

As there are things I want to do right now (why?? Why do I want to clean everything lately????), I'm going to take my leave. However, I do want to update sometime soon about The Worst CD I Discovered That I Own (capitalized because it will be the title of my next post). Until then, feel free to comment or what have you. Oh, actually, here's a fun topic for discussion before I update again--what do YOU think my username means? The answer will, and probably should, be at least slightly different from everybody, as my relationship with everybody I know is at least slightly different. Does that make sense? It does to me. Have a ball!

Oh, before I go, I'd just like to point out how badass (J: What? M: Badass. J: What? M: Badass. J: What? M: Badass. J: What? M: BADBUTT! Okay?! Badbutt!) Alucard is. However, if you can find an even more badass picture of him that's 100x100 pixels or less and/or smaller than 4KB you are officially awesome. <3 Hellsing <3

No, one more thing. While I was reading old Xanga entries for nostalgia's sake I came across the Generic Movement Toy 3® saga. Does anyone else remember that? It's sitting in the playroom right now. Boy, am I glad I got that thing back. I never ever ever get the urge to play it and I don't know if/when I'll ever get rid of it, but I'm so relieved to know I actually have it. Alright, I'm going for real this time. Fin.

Edit: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I just listened to it--it's not the right Arrival Of The Queen Of Sheba! Where's the right one?!!!?!?!?

Edit 2: Phew! All is well--I found it! I should have known better than to think my favorite version of anything was on the For A Lazy Afternoon CD. It was absolutely horrible expecting to hear the perfect tempo and Bb and instead being hit with a too-fast A natural. *shudders* Never again! Alright, this time I'm really going. Really!

Edit 3: Never mind, this is more important, thenI'll go: HAPPY BIRTHDAY FELDMAN!!!!!!! <3
